Welcome to Alaska Saltwater Tours

Hello, We are a family owned company whose passion is putting our visitors eye to eye with the wonders of the Kenai Fjords National Park.

We've been lucky enough to travel far and wide- and what we've learned is this: The emerald waters of the fjords, teeming with life above and below the waves is something special.  Our small group tours allow us to craft each tour to capitalize on the wildlife, weather, and vistas as they evolve each day.

Thank you for taking the time to visit with us and we hope to hear from you soon!

                                             - Eric and Heather Miller

The Team

Captain Stan Harris:

Stan has fished and guided on these Alaskan waters for over 40 years.  Before retirement he taught generations of kids as a music teacher in Palmer, AK.  His summers were always for fishing and boating.  Stan's a fixture in the town of Seward, and in Alaska in general, with former students and colleagues regularly making their way onto his boats for fishing and sightseeing.  An avid outdoorsman, Stan hunts, fishes, and is basically the Alaskan-type!  He'll put you on the whales, the fish, and yes, he can even find the glaciers!

Deckhand Brooke Greene:

This season will be Brooke’s 4th season working on the Steller Explorer. Originally from Georgia,               Brooke grew up always outside and playing sports. After graduating from the University of Georgia             and working in the business world for a few years, she realized office jobs were not for her. She went         to England and attended a multi-sport outdoor instructor program and fell in love with sea kayaking           on the Cornwall coast.

For the next 11 years she sea kayaked guided all over the world. She has worked in many regions of        Alaska, Washington State, Antarctica, Patagonian Chile, Greenland, Iceland, and Norway. While                working down in Antarctica, she discovered how much she enjoyed driving boats. Her final season of        kayak guiding brought her to Seward, Alaska where she was overwhelmed with how much it had to            offer from the local community, outdoor adventures, and viewing in the Kenai Fjords National Park.

Owners:
Eric and Heather Miller met in Seward Alaska in 2003.  Heather grew up fishing and exploring the              waters of Alaska-- in fact, her first job as an expedition kayak guide in the Kenai Fjords National Park.        When she and Eric met she was captaining for Jim and Kathleen Barkley (the original owners of                Alaska Saltwater Tours) and Eric was deck handing on Kenai Fjords Tours boats.  After several                  seasons together in Seward they embarked on an adventure across the country.  They lived and                worked on all three coasts of the United States- working everything from pirate ships to the Deep              Water Horizon oil spill.

While awaiting deployment with Military Sealift Command, Eric and Heather were informed that, at            that time, married couples could not be guaranteed spots on the same vessel and likely would be              apart for 6-8 months at a time.  Disappointed, they took stock and realized that it was time to start the        next phase of their life together.  They made a deal with each other: they'd move back to Missouri              (where Eric is a seventh generation Ozarkian) and raise a family, then once the kids are through                college, they'd go back on the water.  So, after law school at the University of Alabama (Roll Tide),            they moved back to the Lake of the Ozarks.  Eric took over his father's firm and Heather got a job as          assistant prosecuting attorney, eventually becoming the elected prosecutor and finally an elected              Judge.

When the Barkley's called and offered this company for sale to the Miller's they knew it was their               chance to get back to the water and they couldn't pass it up.  They truly hope that you enjoy your time       on the water of Alaska as much as they do and if it's your first time to Alaska, "welcome home."
